Women gain more status and rights??

Tragic as WW1 & WW2 were, one could argue that they should provided real opportunities for women to gain more status and rights??

  1. Temporarily. But the 1950s, perhaps the strictest era ever for rigid gender roles and housewifely subservience, were the direct result of young men returning from war, taking their jobs back and expecting their wives to return to the house and provide some "normalcy" for them.

    It took several decades for women to shake those expectations off.


  2. If you send all the men off to be killed, the remaining women will tend to end up with more status and rights.

    Although I guess in centuries past they would have been enslaved as concubines or servants...
