  1. The current restriction is on women being in direct combat roles, so you couldn't be infantry or field artillery, as an example, but you could be with the Military Police, who are very likely to find themselves in situations vs. the enemy outside of frontline combat.  With the nature of current war, everyone is potentially in contact with the enemy.

  2. You can be Military Police, but that is a lame job.  You check I.D.'s and open gates, and sit in a car for 12 hours a day. The women in Military usually get treated differently and get free handouts

  3. You should go and talk to a recruiter about your future plans. They will have the answers that your looking for. They should be able to answer questions about West Point. Best of luck to you.

  4. You're getting ahead of yourself. West Point is among the harder service academy, next to the Naval Academy. As someone has already mentioned, get involved in school~USMA greatly weighs leadership positions and get great grades. Additionally get invovled with community service and athletics. And as for your question, women cannot branch in infantry

  5. Women are officially banned from the front lines, but there are many positions in which you could find yourself close to combat, such as a medic.  After having spent 10 years in the military, as a woman I recommend that you not concentrate on what is not available for you.  Sincerely try to find a ppositionn which you can make a meaningful contribution, be the hardest worker in your unit, and be pleasantly professional.  FYI, I was a SERE Instructor and never made gender an issue, your life will be a lot easier if you act like it doesn't matter.

  6. first, if you plan on attending an academy.... you need to study the hardest courses. starting now.

second, there are numerous women in Iraq. and guess what? everyone is on the front lines there. so yes, you very well could be fighting hand to hand.

but, thirdly, by the time you get out of West Point, which would be at least 8 or 9 years from now, we won't be fighting in Iraq, but probably somewhere else (very close).

so, just start studying the hardest math and sciences, oh yeah, and getting straight "a"s.

    good luck.
