okay I need to know if anyone has had the "water" break at 20 weeks, how long were you able to carry the baby after (my fluid is not staying in at all anymore since 22 1/2 weeks) and was the baby affected, if so how, did they survive, ect. I have been on complete bed rest since this happened at 20 weeks (in the hospital) no sign of infection baby still looks good but now she looks like she is getting squished a little because the fluid will not stay in and the placenta is on top of her. thank you all for you help and please no stupid answers

  1. hello there! my water broke at 26 wks. i was on complete bedrest (in the hospital). i lasted 4wks and 3 days. everyone is different. usually if ur water breaks u will go into labor within 48 hrs. my son was born at 31wks. nicu stay was 4wks. he will be 2 in oct and no real health probs. hang in there. drink plenty of fluid to try to keep the babies fluid level up. good luck

  2. I was once on another website and a woman there (due in November) had her waters break at 19 weeks. She was on complete bedrest but the fluid would not replenish itself. At 23w5d, she developed an infection and had an emergency c-section. The last I heard, her son was still doing very very well, and was only on 20% oxygen at a week old.

On the other hand, and I don't want to scare you, on the same website, there was a woman who was due December 8 and her waters broke at 24w1d. Her daughter was developed prematurely, that day, and died 4 days later from an infection and complications.

This is really something that should be discussed with your doctor though.

Send me a message through YA if you want the link to the board.

    Good luck!

  3. Wow! my daughter is due with her second on Dec 24th and she is also a labor delivery nurse so she see's this happen more than you know. Hang in there, your baby has a good survival rate at this point and hopefully you will be able to maintain your pregnancy a little while longer. God Bless, and I will say a prayer for you.

  4. My ex-motherinlaw had her water break at 22 wks with her daughter and she was in the hospital until almost 24 wks then they had to let the baby come and so her daughter was born weighing about 1 lb.  She was in the NICU until what was considered the duedate then she went home.  She is now 19 years old with a son of her own and I haven't noticed anything that even shows she was a premie but I know her mom said that they almost lost her a few times and she was hooked up to oxygen and all kinds of other stuff for a long time and she couldn't suck a bottle until about 2 wks before she went home.
