I'm a first time mom and 38 weeks pregnant and I don't think I've had any contractions. I don't know what they are supposed to feel like. I don't think I've had Braxton Hicks either. So I just wanted to know how the contractions feel for other women?

  1. You should be able to feel them.. they are like period cramps and your stomach will tighten up and get deformed looking. I didn't have any real cramps until they induced me, and trust me.. You'll know what they feel like when you have them! Also, BH contractions are mostly just the contracting of the stomach without all the pain. It gets harder to breathe and your stomach gets all pointy :) Good luck! Oh, start walking.. a lot.

  2. You will def know when the contractions are there!!

  3. I have a 2yr old, and I'm 18 wks pregnant. I never had Braxton Hicks either. It's different for different people. My contractions that began my labor were similar to period cramps at first. Then they got stronger and closer together and they spread all the way across my lower stomach. I never had lower back pain much, but my friend did a lot during her labor. Just time them from when the pain begins until it subsides. My OB/GYN says when they are 10 minutes apart for more than 1 hour to call or go ahead and go the hospital.  Hope this helps!

  4. trust me when you go into labor you will know it

  5. take a knife and stab yourself in the hand that is what contractions feel like You may think your dying

  6. My contractions felt like pain stemming from my back and then came to the front starting lower then going higher. The pain at times can take your breath away, and you will feel your heart beating harder.

  7. Everyone is different. Mine felt like my son was trying to push through my r****m. I never had back or abdominal labor at all. It was bad, but I knew what it was when it started happening. Good luck.

  8. For me they felt like very bad menstrual cramps. I know you probably have heard this already but you will definitely know when you are having a contraction. It feels like you are doing a sit up but the tighten is below the belly button.

  9. i love how some people dont even answer this poor womens question you should be ashamed saying oh you'll know... try to remember your first time being pregnant she is scared try to be comforting

  10. You will know when you feel them.  At first they are just twinges but they increase and you can acutally see your stomach tighten.

  11. I had a ton of Braxton Hicks but for me the difference in the actual labor was VERY sharp pains. I wondered the same thing and there was no mistaking it once it started.

  12. I had really bad pains in my back (back labor). Almost gas like pains but in my back. I've heard they're like bad cramps on your period though.

  13. To me they felt like period cramps.  I also had tremenous back pain, I had bad back labor.  I had some Braxton Hicks but they are nothing compared to the real thing.  You will definitely know!
