hi ladies, im 23 and was just wondering about pcos, for the last 6 years i have been goin to the doctors every year trying to find out why i have only been getting my periods twice a year, all of them said it was because of sudden weight gain, so thinking it was true i left it, then i started gettin cramps like my periods had come, nausea and really bad fatigue everyday for the last 5 weeks, so i went to a different doctor and he said' i looked at the ultrasound when you were 16 and you have a lot of cysts on there, im sending you to a gyno i believe you have pcos' well i was very angry as you could imagine 6 yrs and now they finally tell me!!! so my question is what should i expect? will there be a lot of meds or an operation ect?

  1. i'm 18 and was diagnosed with PCOS.. that was due to a hormonal imbalance i had..

    the condition is manageable..

I know of many woman who go on the pill to help with irregularity of their period.

with your cysts.. its quite common for woman to have many small ones near the ovaries and not require surgery to remove them..

so that might not be necessary for you..

also you might want to question your doctor about pcos and infertility.. although a gyco could more accurately answer that for you..

    hope it helps

  2. I had the symptoms of PCOS (weight gain, lack of periods etc) years before I was diagnosed with PCOS.  It was only when I was failing to conceive that I was tested for it.

I'm now 23 (diagnosed with PCOS at 20).

There are meds which help with the symptoms.  Different types depending on if you are trying to conceive or not.  If not, the contraceptive pill will help PCOS sufferers.  If you are trying to get pregnant, a drug called Metformin can help, especially along with Clomid.

You will not need an operation and once you have the PCOS under control you will lose weight and should have normal periods again.

It's said time and time again, that the only true way to treat PCOS is with a Low G.I. diet and exercise.  If you are over weight and manage to lose some of it the symptoms should greatly improve.  It's easier said than done with PCOS.  It's terribly hard to lose weight.  Metformin can help in this case.

  3. You dont have to do anything unless you are thinking of having children as PCOS may  affect your fertility.

Weight loss a low GI diet may help naturally.
