Women’s Continental Beach Volleyball Cup enters the crucial stage – Volleyball news
Following the successful completion of CAVB Continental Cup in Rwanda last week, the other volleyball federations are ready to kick off the action.
Mauritius claimed the Olympic berth via African Continental Cup, which rounded off on Sunday, May 27. Mauritius captured one out of the five spots through the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup. In the next run, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AV), NORCECA,
Confederation South American de Volleyball (CSV), and Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) are set to organise the finals of their respective Continental Beach Volleyball Cups in the month of June.
One team from each of the remaining four FIVB confederations will advance to the London 2012 Olympic Games through the Continental Cup finals, while the second and third-place finishers will have a second chance to earn Olympic slots through the FIVB Women’s
Beach Volleyball World Cup in Italy.
In the upcoming Asian Continental Cup Finals, China, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Thailand and Vanuatu will be on board to vie for the Olympic ticket. The town of Fuzhou in China is set
to provide the backdrop for the competition. The hosts Chinese duos are determined to use the competitive edge of playing at home, in order to grab success. However, the situation will become evident as the teams will get down to some real action on the sand.
On the other hand, the CSV Continental Cup Finals will be held in Santa Fe, Argentina. All the attention will shift to hosts Argentina and duos from Uruguay. Argentina will be represented by Ana Gallay, Silvana Olivera, Virginia Zonta, and Georgina Klug
in the competition. They are the pre-favourites of the competition and it will be interesting to watch them competing for the Olympic slots.
In the finals of European Continental Cup, tandems from Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland will come into stride. The CEV Continental Cup Finals will take place from June 22-24, while Russian capital
city Moscow will hold the activity.
In the NORCECA contest, female duos from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Cuba, Canada and Puerto Rico will showcase their skills. The competition is set to begin on June 21 and it will cover its length on June 23.  Mexico will set up the field
of play for the crucial matches.
In addition to the hosts Great Britain, 23 female tandems are supposed to join the 2012 London Olympic Games. So far only Mauritius has secured a trip to London.
