Women’s Doubles pairs under Rexy Mainaky’s charge secure elevated world rankings – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles top pairs, who have been playing under the supervision of national coach Rexy Mainaky secured elevated positions in the world rankings and have high chances to qualify for 2012 London Olympics.
Rexy, who was the coach of Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles squad for the last five years, was demoted last year by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) because of poor performance of shuttlers in the last two years.
Last year, BAM assigned Rexy with a task to groom Women’s Doubles national team. He has done an impressive job so far as two pairs have penetrated into top-20 bracket of the world rankings.
Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei h*i have got an elevated spot by reaching at number 14 in Women’s Doubles world rankings. The second seeded shuttlers in Malaysia, Vivian Kah Mun Hoo and Woon Khe Wei have also proved their worth as they have been placed at number 19 in the world.
Both pairs have provided a hope for the country in the Women’s Doubles department and it seems that in this particular category, the future is bright for Malaysia. The World Number 14 pair, Pei Tty and Eei h*i, who have been playing impressive badminton for the last 10 months, stand a good chance to qualify for London Olympics as the top-16 pairs will make the cut for mega event.
The younger shuttler, Vivian and Khe Wei have also proved that they have the potential which is required to become world beaters. They have an incredible improvement in all aspect of their game. Rexy is quite satisfied with the performances of both pairs in the recent tournaments.
He said, “I’m pleased with Eei h*i-Pei Tty’s strong showing at the Malaysia Open. I believe they will continue to improve. They are enjoying the game once again and it is great to see them breaking into the top 16.”
The coach further added, “It’s also good to have a second pair – Khe Wei and Vivian – snapping at their heels. I won’t be surprised if they join the seniors in the top ranks. To have two pairs in the top 16 will be a boost for women’s doubles.”
With the current world rankings, Malaysian females have a good chance to secure at least one place in the Women’s Doubles draw at London Olympics.
