Women’s European Championship: ECB Development Women’s XI vs. Scotland Women
ECB Development Women’s XI bounced back from their six wicket defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 on the 9th of August with a comprehensive 9 wicket win over Scotland in the Women’s European Championship at New Williamfield No. 2 Oval, Stirling on Wednesday. The below par total of 115 runs set by Scottish women was easily chased by ECB Development Women’s XI with the loss of only one wicket with 30 overs to spare.
An all-round performance from Kathryn Doherty played a key role in the ECB Development Women’s XI’s cakewalk over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wilson-c98046 and Kathryn Doherty chased the meagre target in just 20 overs with nine wickets intact.
The damp and cloudy condition at the start meant that skipper ECB Development XI Jo Cook, had no hesitation in offering Scotland Women to bat first. The Scotland Women went off to a bad start, losing the opening wicket with only three on the board. Lynne Dickson squandered her wicket needlessly when she was beaten on Beth Langston’s throw while taking a careless run on Catherine Smaill’s call. Dickson went back to the pavilion without facing even a single ball.
After Dickson’s dismissal, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kari-Anderson-c70292 joined Smaill and plundered two well-timed boundaries during her 29 balls stay at the crease. ECB Development Women’s XI started its run chase in the same way as their rivals did, losing opener Alice Macleod for a run out without facing even a single ball. After Macleod’s dismissal with only three on the board, opener Kathryn Doherty and Farn Wilson put their side into the driver’s seat by sharing a partnership of 114 runs for the second wicket stand as ECB Women’s XI chased the meagre target of 116 runs in the 20th with the loss of one wicket. Farn Wilson piled up her successive 50 from 54 balls while opener Kathryn Doherty was 49 off 64 when the winning shot was struck.
