Women’s World Golf Rankings remain almost stable
The Women’s World Golf Rankings remained almost stable last week, with Yani Tseng still seizing the number one position, followed by American Stacy Lewis.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who has been performing well in the current season, has once again snatched the third position from Chinese Shanshan Feng, pushing her back to the fourth spot in the Women’s World
Golf Rankings.
The rankings did not see a big shift in the top 10 last week, except for Sun Ju Ahn knocking Amy Yang off the seventh spot. Yang currently stands at the eighth position in world rankings.
South Korean Inbee Park, who displayed a solid performance at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 finishing second after carding an overall score of 278, could not boost her position in the world rankings as
she stills ranks ninth.
Park expected to see a rise in her position but other players also displayed a good performance in the last two tournaments, clinging to their positions.
Another South Korean who has been able to boost her position in world rankings is Chella Choi. Choi grabbed attention at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 where she posted an overall score of 280 to finish
tied for the third spot on the leaderboard.
Choi has emerged as one of the rising stars on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, but she still has to prove her mettle as she has been seeking to win an event this season.
Commentators said that the top-100 rankings reflect the growing influence of Asians, particularly South Koreans, as they have managed to outshine their European and American rivals in recent months.
The recent LPGA tournaments have seen South Korean contenders perform well, and their ability to remain strong on the course has helped them subdue players from other countries. Although the top spot is still
seized by Tseng, a Taiwanese national, recent performance from South Koreans like Na Yeon Choi and Inbee Park has triggered concerns of most of the star performers on the Tour.
Na Yeon Choi, who had been struggling to make a name for herself on the LPGA Tour until last year, has come out as the most talented golfer in recent weeks. Her latest claim to fame is her first major victory
at US Women’s Open 2012.
