Women’s division added to an extended 2012 AMA Endurocross Championship season
The latest season of American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Endurocross Championship will be featuring a professional women’s division.
Even though the sport had made its debut in 2004, it was not until last year’s edition of X Games in Los Angeles that the women riders got an opportunity to showcase their skills on the challenging course.
The women’s division of Endurocross attracted a lot of attraction during X Games 17 at Staples Center, with the fans of extreme sports showing a lot of interest and encouragement for the female talent. The female riders themselves showed a lot of commitment
and enthusiasm about the sport, making the event pretty intense.
Following the success of women’s division at the mega-event of action sports, the promoters were encouraged to make women’s racing a significant part of the 2012 AMA Endurocross Championship.
“The standing ovations and positive response from the crowd during the women's races combined with the number of top female riders interested in competing drove us to create this championship series for 2012,” said Eric Peronnard, the brain behind Endurocross.
“And the women are improving quickly so we are proud of the fact that we are providing this opportunity for them to showcase their skills in front of packed Arena's and live TV with the X Games.”
The initiative will serve to highlight and reward the talented female riders, which will consequently encourage more females to take up the sport.
The 2012 AMA Endurocross Championship has been expanded to eight rounds this year. Five of these rounds will feature women’s division, making up their own official championship. Each round will award points quite similarly to the men’s expert class, which
will eventually earn one woman the crown for the 2012 Women’s Endurocross champion.
The latest season of the AMA Endurocross Championship is scheduled to get underway on May 4 in Las Vegas and will feature both the men’s and women’s division. The other rounds of the series to feature women’s racing will include Round 3 that will be the
event at X Games 18 in Los Angeles and Round 12 that is expected to go down in Las Vegas on November 17.
