Women’s golf, the next big thing!
Golf, a game of precision is known by a name known as Tiger Woods, although, if the same question is asked from women, they would take the name of Annika Sorenstam or Yani Tseng. Women’s golf is the next big thing when we speak of women and sports.
Currently, every major country is contributing towards women’s golf and its cultivating factors. A game, which started off in the United States of America, has various international tours these days.
Countries like U.S.A, U.K, Japan, Korea, Australia, and many others have prestigious tournaments that are well reputed and popular all over the globe.
The U.S.A has been a pioneer in promoting women’s golf since the 1930’s, by holding the first women’s golf championship named Women’s Western Open.
It was the start to women’s golf, which led to the creation of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), the most successful and reputed championship organization among the women golfers from around the world.
The most important step in the U.S.A was taken by numerous women golfers in 1961, the CSRA Women’s Golf Association was formed in the Augusta Country Club.
This organization has marked various championships and made numerous clubs all over the U.S.A to promote women’s golf effectively.
The CSRA Women’s Golf Association also took the initiative to provide sufficient funding for the promotion of women’s golf all over the U.S.A, holding tournaments and offering attractive prize money.
This became the reason for golf becoming an increasingly popular sport among women in the U.S.A.
In the current era, the U.S.A holds the most reputed tour in women golf, called the LPGA Tour, that welcome’s women golfers from all over the globe for participation and offers millions of dollars as prize money.
The United Kingdom is the home of the Women’s British Open. The Women’s British Open was established in 1976 by the Ladies Golf Union.
The Women’s British Open in the current era offers a prize money of 2.5 million dollars and is considered as an important event in the world of female golfers.
The English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA), was formed in 1952 that covers women’s golf events and fixtures, spanning from Great Britain to Ireland.
The EWGA also promotes golf among women in colleges and schools. The EWGA has been promoting women’s golf through heavy funding by the government and donating to clubs.
That has been the cause of an uplift of the precision sport among women in the U.K.
Japan has been a blessing in terms of women’s golf. No other country has been as successful and primitive of the precision sport as Japan.
Two of the most important tours that Japan has established are the Japan LPGA tour and the Japan Women’s Open Golf Championship.
Surprisingly, Japan’s LPGA Tour is the second richest women’s golf tour in the world. Japan’s approach towards women’s golf has been incomparable.
Japan’s Amateur Golf Championship and Junior Golf Championship have created many of the top-notch players from the land of the rising sun.
In 2011 alone, a total of 34 events were held, worth of 36 million dollars, which was a benchmark in women’s golf in Japan.
Japan’s progress for promoting and hosting women’s golf events has been so fruitful that golf is becoming extremely popular among women in Japan and the neighbouring countries of Asia.
Australia is a cricket giant yet golf has been quite underrated in the land of luck and kangaroo’s. The only prominent fixture in women’s golf in Australia is the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour (ALPG).
The early tours were disappointing as only twelve competitors were featured in the tour. Although in 2004, the number jumped to a hundred and fifty which was a sigh of relief.
The ALPG should follow the footsteps of the Japanese LPGA tour and adopt its strategy for the sake of promotion and classy events. Australia still has a long way to go in golf.
Korea is the only country to hold its own LPGA Tour. It is among the top five women’s golf events in the world.
The LPGA of Korea is an emerging event in Korea and major funds are being used for its promotion and cultivation.
Women’s golf requires more promotion and upbringing in all countries as it is an increasingly popular sport among women all over the globe and requires an extensive look by the world of sports.
