Women’s hockey: South Africa trounce China 2-0South Africa Women thrashed world number four China Women 2-0 in the second test match of the Investec International Series at the Wanderers club in Johannesburg on 26 January, 2011.The goals for South Africa were scored by Pietie Coetzee and Tarryn Bright.Pietie scored the 206th goal in her career’s 212th test match. This means that she is just 15 goals away from the world record of most goals that Russian striker Natella Krasnikova currently holds. The second shot of the day was a treat to watch when the ball was midway through the first half and Bright followed that all the way to the post and scored a lovely reverse-stick goal in the 41st minute of the match. The Chinese got many chances to score in the game but could not do so. They gave a tough time to the South African team and the match looked a head-to-head fight until the first goal by Pietie. The South African women defended in the match well and recorded their second win over China in the last six months. They have now won eight matches on the trot and it is being considered as the most consistent and successful period of their history. The head coach of the team, Giles Bonnet made a lot of efforts to polish the team in the finest and utmost way possible. He stated that he was very relieved to see the improvement level of the team from the first test match but still work had to be done on the finishing and play in the third match. He further said that he was pleased with Captain Marsha Marescia for the way she organised the game throughout the 70 minutes of the match. The third test match will be played at the same venue on Thursday.
