HI! My name is Jennifer Hughes. I set up a website for my daughter, Dakotah Hughes, www.dollar4dakotah.com. She was born with a rare syndrome, Aicardi Syndrome and is profoundly disabled (both physically and mentally). Dakotah does NOT receive ANY type of financial or medical assistance. She is on a waiting list to receive services but she as been on that list for 7 years now and there is no hope in sight. (She was actually featured in a Florida newspaper, the Orlando Sentinel, about the waiting list.) I am a teacher of special needs students and so unfortunatley I make too much for her to get financial assistance but don't make enough to afford things I need for her.

I am in desperate need of a new mini-van with a new lift (factory installed). I have priced them and there is no way that I can afford the monthly payments with the expenses that I have with her. I am trying to raise enough money to be able to pay cash for a new van.

Please look at her site and pass the word

  1. i hpe dakota fells well

  2. i know it's not a great solution-but are you able to use a standard minivan and portable ramp-

that is what I do-as long as she isn't pushing/driving herself it may work-you can use a 3/4 foot ramp-it's steep, but doable

the Dodge/chrysler vans have the stow nad go seats-when the seats are folded in the floor-there are anchors-you may be able to safely tie the chair down----and they have a program to help with the ramp-last I checked gtehy would give you $1000 for the ramp/tie down equipment

I was fired from my job due to disability discrimination-and ignored by the government- and am in desperate need of money myself

You can try private agencies like Easter Seals or Elks-

Try to get somebody to put together a fundraiser like a car wash-a lor of people have done thagt inmy area to help a family with special needs-some have even formed 501c3 charities to help specific families and run raffles...

  3. I sent $5...wish I could send more, but I hope it helps.

    Good luck to you!

  4. I saw that you have a lift van for her now....but is there a way to get a used van?  I am a special education teacher and my cousin who has cerebral palsy has a lift van that my aunt and uncle were able to purchase used.  The quality was great and the van has worked well for them.

There is a waiting list for services in Florida?  Like OT, PT, Speech, etc.?!  If so--that is insane...and you need to get out of Florida!!!
