I love scarey places and i have heard many stories about Questhaven but havent been able to find it. I was wondering if anyone knew where it was. If so please send directions and any stories you might have. Also let me know if you know any other scarey places in San Diego. Thanks!

I've been out to Questhaven several times. If you want to get out there, you take I-78 and exit at Twin Oaks Valley Road and head south, and it becomes San Elijo Road. If you take a left on Questhaven Road, you'll pass a bunch of upscale homes, but as you continue down the road it becomes more windy and narrow, and simply becomes a dirt road. At the end of the road is the infamous "Questhaven" gate, which many people mistake to be the insane asylum. It's just a Christian retreat center, and I've been there several times during the day and the people are really friendly.
However, if you want to see any of the "creepy" stuff, you head south on Twin Oaks Valley Road (which becomes San Elijo Road, as I stated earlier). But instead of taking a left on Questhaven Rd., you keep going down San Elijo Rd. and take a left on Elfin Forest Rd. You continue down the road, and after the big curve, you'll see a sign with a cresent-shaped moon that says "Questhaven Rd." Right across from that sign you'll see two pillars, and there's a hole in the fence that you climb through, and you'll find an old campground with several RV hookups. If you keep walking down the dirt path you'll see an old staircase and a broken-down brick wall, which from what I've researched are the ruins of an old store.
Now if you keep going down Elfin Forest Road, you'll pass the Elfin Forest Recreational Park, where you can park and go hiking during the day. It's very pretty and a fun hike :) But if you keep driving on Elfin Forest Road, it turns into Harmony Grove Rd., and it becomes more windy and narrow. You'll occasionally pass ruins of old houses/farms and creepy trees that randomly hang over the road, which creates a spooky atmosphere. You'll eventually come across the egg farm, and then you'll come to the intersection at Country Club Drive. Take a right, and you'll drive down a dirt road, and off to the side there's an old, half-torn down abandoned building which is the old insane asylum. It wasn't actually an asylum from what I've researched, it was just a boarding house for the insane. It's surrounded by a barbed wire fence. At the end of the road is the Harmony Grove Spiritualist Assocation, which is a weird little area with tiny houses and a moderately sized chapel which is supposedly a witches' coven. It's a weird little area, I try to stay away from it.
I hope this helps. I know you were just asking for the asylum but I thought I'd give you the other sites out there as well :) The area is really fun to go and hang out during the day; it's nice to go and just enjoy the last of the rural areas left in SD County. Enjoy!
