Wondering about the hospital stay!?

I'm due ANYDAY now, and my husband planned to stay with me in the hospital both nights. I told that to my mom, and she thinks it's ridiculous for him to stay there! Did you have your husband stay the night in the hospital? I'd feel so lonely being there without anyone.

  1. Have your husband stay in the room with you, overnight, if he is wanting to and you want him there, he should be there. With both of the births of my children, my husband stayed the night with me, its comforting to wake up and have him there, to help with the baby, get things for me when I was soooo ooooooo sore.  Good luck! I hope your labor and delivery go's smooth! Congradulations on your soon to be here Baby!

  2. In the UK, the husband staying isn't an option so I spent my nights alone after the birth! To be honest, with my first, I would have really liked him staying... Not so bothered with the other 2 as I only stayed one night. If I was you and had the choice then yes, for sure, i'd have my husband stay!

  3. Oh wow... my husband will definitely be staying with me! I won't have it any other way, and he refuses to leave me there alone.

  4. With my first baby, I stayed in the hospital three nights. With my second baby, I was in the hospital two nights. My husband stayed every night- happily.

  5. umm yes normally the husbands stay there.. theres a chair that turns into a cot for him to sleep on..when i have birth at night time i saw all the fathers walking around with the babys as the mother slept

Maybe grandmas jealous that she isnt going to be there?

  6. I stayed there 1 night & yes, hubby stayed with me at all times, my epi didn't wear off for awhile so he took care of baby the 1st hours, such a sweetie! There's nothing ridiculous about your husband being with you!

    God Bless

  7. I didn't have anyone stay with me with either of my kids. But, it would be a nice gesture for the husband/partner to stay the night with you.

  8. If i am pregnant and giving birth my husband better be beside me every step of the way! Why would it be ridiculous for him to stay overnight? Seems to me like your mom just wants him gone so she can spend some alone time with her daughter. Sometimes it's hard for mothers to let their children go.

  9. Everyone I've known has had her husband stay.  My husband doesn't want to leave me, either!  Perhaps back when your mom gave birth it was less common, but nowadays the dads are really involved in the entire process of childbirth and the days after.

It doesn't matter what your mother thinks, just do what you and your husband prefer.  She'll probably come around once she realizes it takes a good husband to be there for his wife and child 24-7!

  10. oh my god....its like a blessing if ur husband decides to stay wid u in the hospital....i mean it will be such an amazing support....i would live to have my husband with me every single moment!good luck n do what u want to...

  11. Yeas she is definately jealous. The fathers should be there. Maybe your mom needs a history lesson on equality. She must be old schooled- just tell her that its 2008 not 1956.

  12. My husband stayed with me. It was our first child but he are about to have our 2nd and he will stay with me again. I wouldn't want to be there without him. Its his child too, he should be there to bond as well.

  13. When I had my son on August 13th 2006, my boyfriend stayed with me at the hospital the entire time I was in there. I was in there for two nights. He was a lot of help and I would have felt so lonely with out him there.

I am due August 25 with our baby girl, so any day now for me also, and he will be staying with me my entire time in the hospital this time as well.

You'll feel lonely staying there by yourself.

  14. its your choice! nower days men play a larger part in there childs upbringing! if you want him there then he can be there, theres laws now in place to protect there rights! he can be there if you want! so have him there and let him help with feeding at night if you are to tired!

  15. Definitely not.  My mom came in town for the birth, so once the baby was born and we all had time to visit, hubby and mom went home to get some much needed rest!  The next day they arrived at the hospital around noon and stayed til dinnertime.  They went home again that night, then I checked out the next day.  Honestly, I wouldn't have even thought of asking him to stay in the hospital when he has a nice comfy bed to sleep in at home.  Also he snores, so if I had a roommate that would have really been a problem.

  16. The hospital that Im having my daughter at actually has queen sized beds... just so the husband can stay comfortably!!!  And they are really hospital beds... pretty cool.

I think soon to be grandma thinks its rediculous because she's the odd one out.  =(  She will be ok, I think its the norm nowadays.... to have the fathers stay the evenings and days with mom.  Plus, you need your rest, and he can comfort baby through the night while you sleep.

  17. oh i hope mine stays! we haven't even talked about it! but i agree i'd be lonely

  18. When my baby was born, dads weren't allowed to stay all night.  (I had a room-mate.)  A few years later, the maternity department was remodeled to all private rooms, and dads can and do stay 24/7.  I'm sure my husband would have stayed if he'd been allowed to.

  19. My husband plans on staying the whole time.  My hospital has a couch and recliner in the room so the fathers or grandparents can stay.  So its not ridiculous.  It's what they do now, they didnt' do it years ago, but now fathers are more involved and there to help.

  20. maybe your mom is jealous.

I wouldnt have it any other way.

My husband is FOR SURE- staying the entire time that I have to.

I dont want to be alone in my first birth...

  21. i stayed at the hospital with my wife the three days that she was there. and said i had help her a lot. because she didn't want to the baby to leave her. so by me being there she could take a shower and get some sleep. and i even got her food when she wanted it. it just seems like your my in stuck in the past and needs to come back to the here and now. if you want her him there then you should have him. and if it doesn't work tell him to go home.

  22. My husband stayed with me after the birth of our first child. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and it is a great bonding experience for your new family. My husband couldn't stay overnight after the birth of our second because he needed to be at home with our daughter and even though I was glad he was there for her and was comforted by that, I still was lonely. I am actually hoping to go home a few hours after the birth of our third (this january) if all goes well and baby is healthy so our family can be together. I don't get any rest in the hospital anyways.

  23. I was in the hospital for 6 nights with my baby girl and my husband stayed every single night.  I wouldn't have changed a thing!  I love him so much and just having him there to help and support me meant the world.  Do what you want to do!
