Wondering if Infrared can connect to wireless internet?

I have an older laptop with Infrared technology and was wondering if there is a way to connect it to my wireless Internet connection at home. because this is an older laptop it does not have a broadband port nor does it have a dial-up phone line port. Any comments or suggestions will help. Thanks

  1. Infrared is used only to connect two computers directly to transfer files, it cannot be used to connect to the internet.


  2. You can buy a wireless usb adaptor and connect it to the usb port of that laptop then you will be able to connect it to your wireless network.

    But infrared can't connect to wireless network its different technology

  3. infrared was the first attempt at wireless networking, its obsolete technology. if you dont have an Ethernet jack on the back of the laptop then you need to buy a PCMCIA to Ethernet adapter. computers that old predate USB ports as well...

  5. Infra-red is nothing to do with wireless. You will need to install a pcmcia or USB wireless card.
