Wondering if anyone witnessed the ufo over massapequa, ny in the 1960's?

most of my extended family witnessed a ufo around 1967 in massapequa, on long island, ny. many reported it and there was an article the next day in the newspaper. does any one recall this or know where i can get the newspaper article?

YES! My in-laws, three of the five people in the family saw it from a window in a highrise Rochdale Village in Queens - they called the airport, was told that they were getting reports and no one knew what it was. The next day, they saw the article in the paper, and then they called the airport and they were told that it was just an airplane and it was ridiculous to say it was a UFO. But my father in law and two of his son's saw the same thing at the same time in the mid 1960's.

It might have been an SR-71 spy plane.  I know it set a speed record back around that time frame and they usually did it flying from LA to NY.  I'm sure this plane would have looked very strange to anyone seeing it at the time.  I was in awe of it the first time I saw one up close in a hanger in California in the mid 80's.  Do any of your relative remember any sonic booms long before they saw the craft?  They wouldn't have see it making its record run but when it came down low to find its refueling plane it would have been going pretty slow..  I'm curious as to anything they remember.  I'm sure the sonic booms would have brought people outside to see what was going on.
