  1. what year

what part of the country??? could clarinda have been called clara??

  2. I couldn't find John in the marriage record either, but I did find them in the 1861 and 1871 census.

  3. Pallot's isn't really the right index to be looking in for marriages.  It is mostly marriages in London - very very few outside the capital.  The best marriage index to look at is BOYDs - they have far more extensive coverage of most of the country, but this is still not 100% complete for all parishes and years - and this is one index you won't see online at Ancestry.

What county is it in?  I've got the Bertram Merill's marriage index for Cheshire on CD if that is any help.  Other people on here might have other CDs for other parts of the country.

In the meantime, if you want to try searching the Boyd's marriage indexes, I suggest you purchase a few credits at http://www.originsnetwork.com and see if you have any joy there.  You could also try the Federation of Family History societies databases at http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/ to see if they have been transcribed there.  Their Cornish records are especially good.  They also have the National Burial Index up there as well which is well worth a look.

Never never never restrict yourself to membership of just one website.  There are dozens of good websites out there who all have different records.  Ancestry does not have it all.  That is one reason why I wouldn't pay them £85 a year, because I know I will need to still buy access to a lot of other websites as well.

And of course you should bear in mind that the record you seek may not be online at all.  A lot of records aren't.

  4. Sorry, no John Prosser in 1836 or 1837.

No John Prosser/Clarinda found when searching all databases.
