Wong Choong Hann and Tee Jing Yi will represent Malaysia in the 2011 Badminton World Championships
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles Shuttler, Wong Choong Hann, and Women’s Singles player, Tee Jing Yi, will represent Malaysia in the World Badminton Championships 2011, which will take place in England, on August 8.
In the Men’s Singles category, the veteran Choong Hann has proved his worth by playing superb badminton in different international events in 2010. In the Women’s Singles category, Tee Jing got a chance to play in the mega event since the elite shuttler,
Wong Mew Choo, retired recently because of injuries.
Choong Hann, who is now 34 years old, proved that he is still passionate to play at the top level of the game. The veteran is currently ranked at the 16th position in the Men’s Singles World Rankings. His unending dedication and hard work has
earned him this prestigious position in the top 20 shuttlers of the world. The Dunlop sponsored Choong Hann will join forces with Lee Chong Wei in the mega event.
The secretary of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Ng Chin Chai appreciated the performance of Choong Hann and justified his participation in the World Championships by saying, “Choong Hann qualified on merit by virtue of being the world number
16th player. We are sending him because the standard of other singles players are far from him.”
Tee Jing is also determined to deliver a good performance in the mega event to justify her selection. The shuttler has the ability to beat any top player on a given day. She is hopeful to put up a good show in the World Championships, against the top contenders
from different countries of the world.
The whole Malaysian squad will fly to England in the third week of July. The shuttlers will attend a 10-day training camp which will take place at the University of Bath. After completing this training camp, the national team of Malaysia will go to the Wembley
Indoor Arena where the 2011 World Championships will take place.
