Wong Kam Po tops men's road race in Asian Games
Hong Kong's Wong Kam Po won the men's road race event in the 2010 Asian Games cycling competition on Monday.
The veteran rider was awarded the victory after original winner Park Sung-baek of South Korea incurred a penalty and was relegated to 19th place.
Park edged Wong towards the finish line but officials ruled that the South Korean interfered in the final metres of the nine-lap, 180km race. Wong complained that Park attempted to block his path when he swung wide to his left approaching the finish line.
The judges agreed and handed Wong the gold.
Wong's official time was four hours, 14 minutes and 54.18 seconds. It was the 37-year-old’s third gold medal in the Asian Games after winning the same event at the 1998 Bangkok Asiad and the 2006 Doha Asiad. He won a bronze at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.
Hong Kong has now won four gold medals in the Guangzhou cycling competition. Lee Wai Sze topped the women's 500m time trial in track cycling while Chan Chun Hing won the men's cross-country mountain bike event. Steven Wong was the winner in the men's BMX
event. Hong Kong's other gold medals were won in billiards and snooker, sailing and wushu.
