Wong Pei Tty – Chin Eei h*i and Goh Liu Ying – Chan Peng Soon fail to perform against Indonesia
Malaysia’s Wong Pei Tty – Chin Eei h*i and Goh Liu Ying – Chan Peng Soon have failed to perform well against the Indonesian shuttlers in the last Group B match of the Sudirman Cup 2011, in China, on Wednesday, May 25.
Malaysia lost to Indonesia after a tough fight with a close margin of 2-3.
Malaysia was leading the match with a difference of 2-1 points. The Malaysian squad was expecting Wong Pei – Chin Eei to win a point against the Indonesian pair of Meiliana Jauhari – Greysia Polii.
In the opening set, both sides put up great show in front of the Chinese crowd by playing high class badminton. The score progressed with the same pace from both sides and reached at the crucial stage of 21-21. At this concluding phase of the opening set,
the Indonesians managed to play well and clinched the set by a 23-21 margin.
In the second set, the nervous Malaysian pair lost focus and committed many errors in a hurry. The Indonesians remained calm and focused in the game and spared no chance for the Malaysians to dominate the game. Meiliana – Polii won the second game easily
with a 21-14 difference. The Malaysian pair lost to the Indonesian pair for the fifth time in different events.
Doubles coach, Rexy Mainaky said, “Eei h*i made lots of mistake today but I do not blame her. She tried her best but nothing seemed to work.”
Malaysia’s Chan Peng – Goh Liu also met with the same fate from the hands of the Indonesian couple, in the Mixed Doubles category.
Rexy said, “They changed their tactical play and was targeting more on Peng Soon and prevented him from setting up winners for Liu Ying. Overall, though, I am happy with their fighting performances.”
The coach further added, “It was always going to be 50-50 for Peng Soon and Liu Ying against Fran-Pia. Their opponents came into the match with a 4-1 record in their favour.”
Indonesia’s Pia Zebadiah Bernadet – Fran Kurniawan played better badminton in the entire match against the Malaysian duo and finished the match in straight games with a 21-18 and 21-15 difference.
