Wong Pei Tty - Chin Eei h*i stun higher ranked English duo at the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei h*i delivered an impressive performance in the Women’s Singles opening round as they defeated home favourites, Gabrielle White and Jenny Wallwork of England at the 2011 World Championships on Monday, August 8. The event
is being staged at the Wembley Arena in London.
The spirited pair of Wong Pei and Chin Eei stunned the local shuttlers on their home ground and in front of the huge home crowd by winning the match in straight games by taking 38 minutes in the court. The English pair failed to perform well despite having
the support of the local crowd and lost the encounter as they did not play top-class badminton.
Wong Pei and Chin Eei opened the first set in impressive style, as they dominated the rallies by playing an extraordinary game at the net. The beautiful coordination of the Malaysian duo was visible and they maintained a firm grip on the pace of the game.
They clinched the first game with a comfortable margin of 21-14.
The English pair tried to play better badminton in the second set but they failed against the firing Malaysians, who were playing on a different level. Wong Pei and Chin Eei showed no mercy to their experienced rivals and won the second game with a huge
difference of 21-12. The concluding result of this Women’s Doubles second-round match was 21-14 and 21-12.
After winning the match, Wong Pei said, “I did not compete at the world meet last year because of my injury. It sure feels good to have made a winning comeback here.”
She further added, “I was quite tense in the beginning and I wasn’t even confident. Then, slowly I got the hang of it. It is certainly a good start for us.”
While talking about their next round match against the Japanese pair, Wong Pei said, “This Japanese pair remind us of only one thing – long rallies. We will be prepared to go the distance against them.”
Wong Pei and Chin Eei are playing top standard badminton and the duo is looking forward to prolonging their winning run at the World Championships.
