Wong Pei Tty confident to recover from knee injury before the 2011 World Badminton Championships
Malaysia’s Wong Pei Tty, who is carrying a knee injury, is confident to attain full fitness before the World Badminton Championships 2011, starting from August 8 -14, in London, England. Wong Pei is recuperating for the world meet, where she will contest with her Doubles partner, Chin Eei h*i.
Pang Cheh Chang, the doubles coach, is not vexed with the injury of Wong Pei as he is also confident that the shuttler will recuperate from this old injury, which is expected not to haunt her performance in the mega event.
Pang Cheh said, “She is coming back after a long injury layoff and there was a need for her to play in competitive matches in order to strengthen her leg muscles.”
The coach further added, “After the Indonesian Open she said her knee was feeling some pain again. That is why we allowed her to take a break and skip the Kedah Open.”
However, the coach also expressed that to recover from an old injury is not easy. He further said that if Wong Pei manages to recover 90 percent of her fitness, then she will be in good shape to perform well.
Wong Pei is still working hard in training sessions despite having pain. She did not participate in the Kedah Open to avoid aggravation in her knee injury. However, she is confident to put up a good show with her partner, Eei h*i, in the World Championships.
This Women’s Doubles pair will also attend a training camp at the University of Bath before the mega event, which will help them to get familiar with the conditions in England. They will leave for England on July 27 and will remain busy in training until August 5.
Wong Pei and Eei h*i will participate in the world meet as an un-seeded pair. They are expected to meet any of the top-16 pairs in the opening or second round of the Women’s Doubles draw in the world meet. The duo has the experience and skill to make upsets and they are confident to perform well in the World Championships.
