Won’t consider tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Cricket Board – Cricket News Update
Chances of Bangladesh’s proposed tour of Pakistan working out seem slimmer as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) declined to discuss the matter in a recent meeting of the board of directors.
The Pakistan Cricket Board invited Bangladesh for a tour in April, in exchange for adding their support for the nomination of BCB’s chief executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122 as president of the International Cricket Council. The BCB expressed interest in the idea and
sent a delegation (which included http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069) to assess the security situation in the country, which approved the arrangements.
However, the series came into doubt following the ICC’s refusal to sent neutral match officials to the country (once again, due to the security risk) despite agreeing to grant the tour official recognition. This led the BCB to express hesitation, throwing
the proposed tour into doubt.
The recent board meeting was supposed to clarify the status of the tour, but the matter did not come under discussion, with the board maintaining their stance and stressing that they would not go ahead with the tour without the ICC’s backing.
“The BCB is seeking the ICC’s support for making the final decision and until then it’s not considering touring Pakistan,” an official close to the board told Pakistani newspaper, The Express Tribune.
When pressed for further details, he declined to comment, saying that the proposed series had not been discussed at the 35th board of directors meeting.
“Pakistan tour wasn’t on agenda of the meeting,” he said.
The tour was part of the PCB’s plan to start hosting foreign cricket teams for sporting events again, after the terrorist attack on the visiting Sri Lankan squad in 2009 brought international cricket in the country to a deadlock.
In addition to the BCB, the Pakistan board approached the BCCI for a bilateral series with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, which also did not materialize. Currently, the board is in talks with Kent-based club Lashings, as well as contemplating the idea of assembling a World XI to
play in Pakistan. The launch of the Pakistan Premier League (based on the model of the neighbouring BPL and IPL) is also under consideration.
