Wonton filled with rice and sweetened. Name? Recipe?

I recently bought some sushi from the grocery store and it included several sweetened, rice-filled pockets. Any idea what it is called or have a recipe for it?

  1. Ok, here's the deal. What you ate was not a wonton...that is a Chinese food item...not Japanese. What you ate is a type of sushi item called "Inari" (pronounced "Ee-na-ry). The outside covering is made from tofu. It is essentially a "fried tofu skin" preserved with (I believe) a hint of rice vinegar, sugar & tamari or shoyu (Japanese style soy sauce) . Most people wouldn't even dream of trying to make them (the tofu skins) at home because that would be very labor intensive. However, you can purchase them (tofu skins in a can) in Japanese or Chinese market. If it's a Chinese market they might have a Japanese food section. Basically, you open the can carefully, remove the tofu skin, which is a "little pocket" essentially. Then, you fill it with precooked sushi rice that has been drizzle with a little Mirin (sweet rice wine vinegar). That's pretty much it. Optional: You can garnish it with black or white toasted sesame seeds. Funny you should ask about them, as I had them for lunch yesterday. I love sushi!
