Question:

Wood bat to metal bat transition.?

I have been using a wood bat for the majority of my life and just recently considered joining a metal bat league. For some reason, I cannot hit a ball with a metal bat. I have always used a louisville slugger m110 33/30 and the same for the metal bat. Somebody told me it has to do with the distribution of mass in the metal bat, but I was wondering if any of you guys could enlighten me.

  1. Your not real clear on what you mean by "can't hit the ball"

I f i had to guess you a swinging ahead of the ball.  Wood bats are heavier than metal bats, even if your using a 33/30.  You are able to swing the metal bat faster than your old wood bat so your timing is off.

Just spend some time hitting BP and you'll get your swing back.  Just don't use your metal bat in a batting cage unless it throws REAL game type baseballs.  The machines that throw the plastic/rubber balls that look like big golf balls WILL DENT YOUR BAT AND RUIN IT.  I work in a sporting goods store and have seen lots of bats come back with 'dimple dents' on them.  Using bats in a cage voids all warrenties.

  2. I'm no major hitter but I prefer a wood bat over a metal one. It doesn't shake as hard

  3. you may have to shop around for a bat that is roughly the same weight as your wooden one.  Most of the metal bats weigh considerably less than their wooden counterparts.
