  1. Applying borer fluid

Apply the fluid using a syringe or brush, injecting the fluid directly into each hole, especially if applying to a finished surface.

Once the treatment has dried, the holes may be plugged and the surface finish restored if necessary

On unfinished surfaces or timber with too many emergence holes, the borer fluid can be applied using a paint brush, with a 'jabbing' movement rather than brushing to get the fluid right into the holes.

Spraying is the least effective method of treatment because it is harder to ensure the liquid has penetrated into each hole.

Fumigation treatment is only used in special situations, usually for pieces of furniture or fittings that are difficult or impossible to treat using the borer fluid. It is very expensive and this method does not act as a preservative treatment against future attacks.

Good drainage and sub-floor ventilation will help reduce the risk of attack to softwood flooring timbers from these species.
