My wood burning fireplace needs mortar work and possible liner work. I have always wanted to, and plan to, convert it to gas. My question is will I still need to do the mortar work and liner work if I convert it ??

  1. I just installed a vent-less gas log at the beginning of the last heating season. Works great. You can simply do it yourself. Every thing you need is in the box. I purchased the unit from Home Depot. If a vent-less unit is installed your not going to use the flue.

  2. The liner work will be more obviously needed in a refit. Because of the gas install necessary, an inspector will be involved. He will watch that the flue has been correctly lined. You can usually call the inspection people to se what is required in your area.

  3. no....if u go with ventless logs..just seal the damper and ur good to go......if using vented then u will need to repair..
