Wood deck beginning to crack what do I apply to fix this. I thought it was pressure treated wood.?

  1. You should apply a water sealer......If the deck is old, I would put a stain on it.I used Thompsons deck stain in Honey oine and my deck looks brand new.....


  2. You can sometimes fix cracked lumber by clamping the cracked spot together and driving one or more deck screws into it in such a way as to hold the separated parts together.  That means you might have to remove the board so that you can access the side of the wood if the crack is vertical.

    Pressure-treating is usually done to prevent mold and bacteria growth, and to kill off insects that try to bore into the wood.  It doesn't do much to prevent cracking.

  3. Pull the board up and turn it over and s***w back down. If this doesn't work, then replace the boards.

  4. Could be due to one of two things:

    * Natural dehydration of the wood

    * Compression shrinkage
