Wood or carpet???????????

Question

I'm redecorating my room and i can't decide whether to go for wooden flooring or carpet - plz help!

(redecorating ideas welcome too!!!!) thanx..x

Wood flooring in either plank or strips is the way to go.  You can set the wood flooring on a variety of substrates - similar to the padding for a carpet - to reduce floor noise and draw out any moisture from the wood so it doesn't rot.  

Wood flooring is typically harvested from specific forests that are specifically grown for wood production, so you will not be harming the environment.  Bamboo is preferable by some due to it being a rapidly renewable product - its essentially grass.

Carpet tends to have higher VOC's (volatile organic compounds) than wood flooring which makes it less healthy.  Sure carpet comes with 'Stainmaster', but truly bad stains never will come out.  Wood can take the beating and looks great.

Carpeting is definitely more comfortable in a bedroom, however hardwood is the more sought after flooring choice.  

I would suggest hardwood and a nice, cozy area rug to give you the best of both world.  Area rugs are fantastic in that, when you redecorate your room, you are not stuck with the color of the carpeting, just pick up a new rug!!!

I'd love to help you with redecorating ideas, but I would need to know what style/ideas you had in mind and what room you are redecorating - I am only presuming that this is a bedroom??

Go with wood.  Bamboo is generally considered sustainable.  Wood is easier to clean, and a nasty rug is really really nasty. You can always put down a throw rug to change the look easily.

when i did my room i had carpet but then i ripped it out and i have wood and the good thing about wood is that you can put really cool rugs on it

I love wood..because you can use area rugs and change them to your liking

wood is the way to go. its easier to maintain and if you want to put down an area rug or an oriental it will add something extra to the room

Wood flooring is clean and easy to maintain, where as carpet, dust and debre can get caught in it not to mention stains, but it is soft and warmer then wood. Neutral colours are always nice because you can grow into them, it's not too old or not to young

wood if the room is used the most as u can sweep and mop, carpet stains easily. i have wood all downstairs in my house, then i got carpet upstairs less noise and comfy

natural hardwood floors add to the value of your home as they are viewed by appraisers as permanent fixtures  but carpet and or laminates are considered temporary and can actually take away from the value
