WoodShop Question Help!?

Question

Since i had this class last year the teachers giving me harder assignments instead of making a simple box.

What can i build with a 6 in by 42 in wood piece.

[It has to be roughly around those measurements]

Make a little table . Like a plant stand. You can peg the wood together if you need it wider. Byee

I assume you can cut this piece any way you want. Be creative, maybe a flip up step stool for a child. Picture frame for your mom or a cool wine rack. How about a case that holds a folded American Flag?  Some simple projects could be a shelf or wall hung coat rack with pegs or hooks.Be safe

Well, you left out quite a few useful details....

Are you restricted to using just the one board?

What species is it?  (Some wood species lend themselves to certain types of work better than others)

How about hardware - any restrictions there?

Just off the top of my head, here are a few projects, assuming you can only use the one piece of wood...

Bird house

Any kind of 'rack', including key, tie/belt, cd/dvd, cassette, etc.

Traditional shelf

Floating shelf (with this type of shelf, the support mechanism is hidden)

Music box

Sign

Hand carved artwork

Games / scoreboards ( "peg" style games, puzzles, cribbage score boards, mancala, etc)

Lamps (table or wall mounted - hardware can be purchased at any hardware store these days)

Now.. if you have several pieces of wood you can work with, then your options open up quite a bit....

Tables

Chairs/Stools

Storage items (chests, bookshelves, armoirs, etc)

Ottomans (if you have the option of upholstering the wood).

Window Valances

Entertainment centers

.. and the list goes on....
