Tiger Woods to visit Korea after the Masters - Golf News
Tiger Woods will be heading to Korea on 14 April to attend a golf camp, “Make It Matter" arranged for junior and amateur golfers. Officials for Nike Golf Korea confirmed the news of Woods arrival via their official website on Tuesday.
The website also highlights the 35-year-old American golfers schedule during his visit. IT states that Woods will attend the camp, share his experience, give lessons and share stories from his career. He will address hundreds of fans on the course that will
be selected through a procedure by the officials of Nike Golf Korea through their online portal.
The website stated that the company would receive the applications online and after a careful selection method, it would shortlist the candidates who will meet the former world number one. In addition to amateur golfers, a group of five hundred people will
be selected through a lucky draw.
This will be Woods’ first appearance in Korea in a camp since 2004 Raon Invitational Skins Game, in which he was joined by Choi Kyoung-ju, Pak Se-ri, and Colin Montgomerie at Jeju Island.
According to his personal blog, Woods is looking forward to his attendance at the camp. This appearance will help in boosting his PR activities that have taken a dip since 2009, when he confronted an infidelity scandal. The golfer lost most of his endorsement
deals with brands like Gillette and Gatorade, but had few loyal friends left on his side. Nike was one such sponsor.
Woods will cash in on the opportunity to clean his image, while Nike Golf Korea will use it as a marketing tool to gain credibility in the eyes of younger golfers. However, before attending the camp, the American will compete in the Masters at Augusta National
and will promote the ‘Tiger Woods PGA 12’ game by EA Sports a week before that. The game is said to include the course on which the Masters will be played and hence will require an extensive marketing campaign. Since Woods is the key character in the game,
a negative impact on the sales is expected again this year.
Tiger Wood’s public relation team is using all possible methods to improve Woods’ public image. Events like the one in Korea are expected to help Woods regain some of his past marketing appeal.
