Woon Khe Wei determined to deliver consistent performances to qualify for Olympic Games
Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles talented shuttlers, Woon Khe Wei and Vivian Kah Mun Hoo, have been playing impressive badminton for the last one year. Now, Khe Wei wants to deliver consistent performances in the upcoming events to qualify for the Olympic Games, which will start from the last week of July, 2012, in London, England.
However, Khe Wei and Vivian are still away from the mark as they are currently placed at number 21 in the Women’s Doubles world rankings but only top-16 pairs will qualify for the mega event.
Khe Wei and Vivian need to perform on consistent basis in upcoming tournaments to get into the top-16 bracket if they want to appear in Olympics.
In 2010, the duo reached at the quarter-final stage of Vietnam Open and also reached at the top-4 stage at the Taiwan Open. However, they clinched the first title of the year at the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold, held in October, 2011.
They defeated many top pairs in different tournaments in the previous year and have established their worth at international stage. Now they are working hard to perform well on consistent basis and become a part of the national team for the Olympic Games.
However, Khe Wei along with the help of her partner wants to get consistent results.
She said, “It has been a good 2011 but there were a few tournaments towards the end of the year where we didn’t do too well and lacked consistency. In India, we were trailing 10-18 in the rubber game. Although we managed to catch up, mistakes at the end cost us dearly.”
She further added, “With our current ranking, we definitely have a chance to qualify for London but we’ll need to work harder and brush up on our flaws. Our biggest problem is that we are too impatient and we tend to go for the kill too quickly.”
Khe Wei said that the previous failures have taught the pair to remain patient on crucial stages. They are doing well in training sessions and want to deliver consistent performance in the upcoming tournaments to earn a berth at the Olympic Games.
