I was thinking about going to the premier sports camp in wooster, oh at wooster college for there 5 day session that costs 500.00. And before I spend the money I wonder was it helpful and would I advance as a tennis player from attending this camp. Or is it just a baby sitter where everyone just plays tennis.

Please positive answers only.

  1. Hey, my sister just graduated from the College of Wooster last week.

Anyhow, I've never been to that specific camp, but I've been to a Nike camp before.  It was well worth the money, if you ask me (and the Nike camp was more than $500).  Assuming it goes down like my Nike camp did, they will split you into skill-level groups the first day.  That way, you are only playing with people who will challenge you.  Then, you'll do lots of drills and lots of match play with your group.  There's also some times when they do games that incorporate all the skill levels.

It was one of the most intense weeks of my tennis life.  It was about  90 degrees every day, and we played about 6 hours a day.  And in just that week, I became much more secure about my backhand (which eventually turned into quite a weapon), and improved my net play and serves, too.   They will also teach you some other strategy related stuff off the courts.

There were a few times that it seemed like a bit much (mostly because of the temperature), but I really enjoyed it.  And like I said, it's definitely worth the money.  It won't just be day care on a tennis court.

  2. Yes, it would be helpful, and a good experience for you. Be prepared to not only play a lot of intense tennis (several hours a day), but also go through various physical training exercises. This may include running, skipping, footwork drills, etc.

It's a lot of money, and I wouldn't recommend it if you're short on cash. On the other hand, if money is not an issue, by all means, go for it.

Be prepared to work your butt off for all 5 days. Make sure you stay completely hydrated, and if that means taking more breaks than anyone else, do it - your health is more important than the coaches' moods. Most importantly, have fun and do your best.
