Worcester Warriors sign Samoan international flanker Richard Muagututia – Rugby News
2011/12 Aviva Premiership new entrant, Worcester Warriors, has announced the signing of the Samoan international back row forwards player, Richard Muagututia, to help strengthen their squad for their Premiership return campaign. Officials at the club have confirmed the signing of the Samoan flanker Muagututia in a statement released on their website on Tuesday, September 13.
Worcester Warriors head coach, Richard Hill, has expressed his delight on gaining the services of the Samoan international Muagututia. He added that Muagututia’s inclusion provided them depth in their forward resources.
Hill added that besides Muagututia skills and abilities during his recent appearances, the Brian Lima’s recommendation for the flanker were enough to hand Muagututia a Warriors’ contract. He added, “He is firmly regarded as a really big prospect for Samoa and one we believe can make big strides at Warriors.”
Hill added that Muagututia will need to adjust to the English environment. However, he has expressed the hope that the talented back row forward, will quickly make the necessary change to adjust and adapt. He added, “He (Muagututia) has been on tour in Europe before, but this will be a big change of culture. We will initially give him time to settle in and acclimatize.”
Muagututia was part of the Samoan outfit in the last tour of Europe.
Hill added that he is aware of the fact that Muagututia is a young player and this is the first time he will be playing outside his country. He further added, “This is a big opportunity for him and if he can make an impression and prove himself then we will look to contract him for even longer.”
The 23-year-old Muagututia made his international debut for Samoa against Japan at Tokyo in October, 2010. He was part of the Samoan team playing in the International Rugby Board’s (IRB) 2011 Pacific Nations cup.
The Samoan is scheduled to join the English squad in the next few days.
Muagututia has expressed his delight on signing his professional contract with the Aviva Premiership club. He termed the chance of playing in the Premiership and Warriors as a great opportunity.
Besides Muagututia, Warriors has also signed Ravai Fatiaki, who will join the rest of the squad at the end of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
