Worcestershire won the toss and decided to bat first on a pitch conducive for the batsmen.
The batsmen gained maximum advantage of the conditions, scoring 403 runs their first innings.
The innings was dominated by former English player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vikram-Singh-Solanki-c95274, who collected 173 runs with the help of 25 fours and one six.
Solanki got terrific support from his team-mates, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alexei-Nicolaas-Kervezee-c43287 and Shakib-Al-Hasan scored half-centuries in their respective outings.
The visitors were unable to bowl the opposition out, but England’s all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mascarenhas-c912, did a decent job and finished with 3/76 in his spell.
The Hampshire’s first innings didn’t turn out to be as the team would have expected, as they were all-out for 239 runs. Only four batsmen in the innings managed to reach double figures whereas the rest were absolutely below par.

Pothas also played a crucial knock, helping his team avoid an innings defeat. He collected 72 runs, smashing four fours and a couple of towering sixes. Hampshire scored 269 runs in their second outing and gained an overall lead of 105 runs.
