Worcestershire overcome Yorkshire comfortably: Friends Life T20 – First Innings Recap
Worcestershire took a comfortable victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Sunday, June 26, 2011.
The hosts batted first and scored a solid total of 183 runs in their allotted 20 overs. The highlights of the innings were terrific half-centuries from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Cameron-c65525.
In reply, the Yorkshire team failed to even bat out the entire overs and were dismissed in the 19th over for 142 runs. They failed to cope with the bowling of Bangladesh’s Shakib-Al-Hasan, who picked up four wickets in the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daryl-Mitchell-c52533, decided to bat first after winning the toss. He expected the pitch to get slower with time, which was exactly the case in the match.
The hosts opened their innings with the regular pair of openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vikram-Singh-Solanki-c95274. Both batsmen have been performing consistently for their side and have won several matches for them this year.
However, Solanki failed to get going in the game against Yorkshire, as he was dismissed early. The veteran player managed just eight runs in his http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 stay at the crease.
Ali was in explosive form, as he played attacking cricket from the very first ball he faced in the match. The stylish opener collected 40 runs off just 20 balls with the help of six fours and one massive six. He was the second wicket to fall in the home
team’s innings, but gave a solid start.
Shakib was unable to make most of the good batting conditions and had to take the long walk back to the pavilion after adding five runs to the total.
Yorkshire had gained the momentum at that stage, taking three wickets for 70 runs on the board, but the hosts fought back brilliantly in the match.
Kervezee and Cameron showed a lot of maturity and took the game away from the opposition with a superb partnership. They piled up 77 runs for the fourth wicket partnership, guiding the team’s total closer to 150.
Kervezee’s knock came to an end after he had scored 56 runs off 36 balls, with the help of five fours and one six. Cameron also completed his half-century and was dismissed after collecting 55 runs from 37 deliveries, smashing four fours and three sixes.
An unbeaten cameo of 11 runs from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-c76390 guided Worcestershire’s total above 180 in the end.
England’s pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Shahzad-c874, took four three wickets in the match, but failed to restrict the opposition to a lesser total.
