Worcestershire re-sign Ajmal as overseas player for FLt20 campaign
Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Wednesday re-signed the prolific http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 for next season’s Friends Life T20 campaign.
Ajmal, who was the man of the match in Pakistan’s recently concluded three-match Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, currently stands second on ICC’s T20 and Test rankings and the best bowler in the One Day International format of the game.
In the recently concluded Test series against England, in which his side inflicted a 3-nil humiliation on the Poms, Ajmal picked up 24 wickets in three Tests at an impressive average of 14.70 and with an economy rate of 2.40 per over.
The 34-year-old had an impressive spell at New Road last summer and the county management is hopeful that the right-arm off-spinner will be able to tie the batsmen in knots once again. He had spent the second half of last season with
the Royals and helped the side to avoid relegation from Division One of the County Championship, a status they had acquired for the first time in their history.
Last season saw him picking up 16 T20 wickets at an economy of less than six an over as the county finished fifth in the North Group. He also claimed 17 county championship wickets in just three appearances.
The Director of Cricket at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-John-Rhodes-c91315 was happy to have secured the services of Ajmal and hopes that the off-spinner will bring his current form to New Road this summer.
"Saeed showed last summer what a quality bowler he is," said Rhodes, speaking to the media after finalising the deal with Saeed Ajmal. "His recent performances against England only go to back this up and we are delighted that he has
agreed to return to New Road for a second time," he added further.
Ajmal said that he had enjoyed his time at New Road last summer.
"I really enjoyed my time at New Road in 2011 and look forward to returning this summer to help inspire the club to Friends Life t20 success," said Ajmal.
The 34-year-old is expected to arrive at New Road in time to play in the Friends Provident T20, which will be followed by the World T20 Championship in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September, later this year.
