Worcestershire snap up http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JDP-Oram-c1681 for 2013 Flt20 tournament – Cricket News Update
Worcestershire county cricket club on Tuesday snapped up New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram as their overseas player for the 2013 Friends Life T20 campaign.
Oram, the 34-year-old Manawatu right-arm medium pacer, is one of the few international cricketers who have retired from one-day and Test formats of the game in a bid to pursue a career as a T20 specialist. He announced
retirement from the other forms of cricket in December last year and after having played in the recently concluded http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League (BPL); he will also play in the sixth edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League. Oram will represent former IPL
champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians in the latest edition of the esteemed league.
Oram, a veteran of 33 Tests and 160 One Day Internationals, has never played county cricket before. While speaking to media reporters after signing the deal with Worcestershire, the Kiwi all-rounder said that playing county cricket
had always been his aim and that he was really looking forward to the opportunity.
"The opportunity to play for Worcestershire in this season's competition was something I could not turn down," Oram said. "While I have never played county cricket, it has always been a goal of mine so I am very excited at the
prospect.”
"Another attraction to Worcestershire was the chance to play at the picturesque New Road cricket ground. I have played a few games there for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, in 2004 and 2008, as well as the New Zealand Youth Team in 1996. It's a
beautiful ground and one that I will be privileged to call home, at least for a month," the New Zealand right-arm medium pacer went on to add.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 CCC are one of the only two counties never to have progressed beyond quarter-final stages in the Friends Life T20 tournament, Derbyshire being the other county side. Worcestershire's director of cricket Steve Rhodes
hoped that the presence of Oram, a big hitting batsman and a canny medium-pace bowler, in the dressing room will help the club go a step further this season.
"I have admired Jacob's all-round qualities for some time now and his t20 experience, which he has gained from global competitions, is a major plus factor in our desire to have a successful Friends Life t20 campaign," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-John-Rhodes-c91315,
said. "He can bowl at the start, middle or end of the innings and can clear the ropes as a batsman, so our supporters will enjoy watching his exciting performances."
Besides Oram, Worcestershire have services of several other all-rounders as well, including Gareth Andrew, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712, the club's other overseas player.
