Worcestershire 172 (27/27 ov) v Netherlands 139 (target: 139 runs from 19 overs) - Netherlands won by 9 wickets (with 13 balls remaining) (D/L method)
Duckworth–Lewis method (D/L method) was almost used in every game on Monday as rains drenched and ruined all the matches of the ongoing Clydesdale Bank 40 tournament. The match between Worcestershire and Netherlands was no different as the game was first reduced to 27 overs, while later it was to changed to 19 overs when it was time for Netherlands to start their batting at Chester Road North Ground, Kidderminster.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Netherlands chose to give their bowlers a first go at the batsmen as they wanted their side to restrict their opponents on a small total while playing on a wet outfield.
Worcestershire, however, got off to a decent start as openers MM Ali and VS Solanki bolted 24 runs before the fall of Ali, who lost his wicket after scoring an innings of 15 runs.
M Klinger was the next man to walk back to the pavilion as he lost his wicket cheaply on a tally of two, leaving his side standing on a total of 32 runs on the board.
JG Cameron alongside Solanki halted the bowlers from getting carried away, as he smacked the bowlers impressively to take out the sting from the bowling attack.
Both batsmen steered their side out of the hot zone by taking the total to 110 runs before the partnership finally came to its end on the wicket of Cameron, who found his way back to the pavilion after hammering an innings of 38 runs.
Meanwhile, with 151 runs on the board, Solanki was the last wicket to fall from his side, as the batsman faltered after crafting a stupendous innings of 63 runs. He played a major role in helping his side amass a daunting total of 172.
With a revised target of 139 runs to win from 19 overs, Netherlands launched a staggering batting onslaught and lost only one wicket before winning the game.
