Player of the Match Nick Compton’s unbeaten 42 proved to be the anchor of his team’s innings as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 went on to secure a 7-wicket win in their most recent Friends Life t20 match against Worcestershire, played on July 8 at the County Ground at New Road
in Worcester.
Having set Somerset a target of 120 on a slow pitch with a soft outfield, Worcestershire were unable to make much of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Dent-c41093 in their opponents’ batting order, and Alfonso Thomas’ men were able to reach the required score with 7 deliveries to spare, at the
expense of 3 wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181 was next up to bat, but was unable to make much of an impression, sent packing by Jack
Shantry in the 6th over, after a contribution of just 4 runs.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hildreth-c1647 (35*), who followed, proved an able partner for Compton, and the
two comfortably got their side up to 120.
The duo justified their team’s earlier confidence in chasing when they won the toss and chose to field. Their bowling attack had been spearheaded by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JA-Morkel-c1613 (4-0-30-3), with Thomas (4-0-21-2) chipping in to restrict the opposition to a low total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Scott-c1140 (19) were able
to contribute double digit individual scores, and the team found themselves restricted to 119 by the end of 20 overs.
Although Somerset emerged victorious, both teams will be advancing to the quarter-finals of the tournament – Worcestershire are due to play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 on July 24 at Taunton.
