Worcestershire 285 (97.4 ov) v Surrey - Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat
Thursday, May 10: On the second day of the four-day match between Worcestershire and Surrey in the ongoing domestic County Championship Division One, the visitors Surrey made a remarkable comeback in the match by bowling out the hosts on a decent total of 285 runs at County Ground, New Road, Worcester.
Surrey medium pacer, Tim Linley, was the star of the day as he nabbed four wickets to decapitate the batting side as he shredded the upper and lower-order likewise.
The bowler was provided commendable support from fellow medium pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jon-Lewis-c1726, who collected three Worcestershire scalps to remain the second best bowler of the day.
Meanwhile, the day started with the home boys DKH Mitchell and M Klinger coming out to resume the innings from an overnight tally of 58 runs without the loss of a wicket. While the first day was ruined due to harsh weather, fans were just dying to see some action today.
The fans received the first shock of the day on the demise of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-c76390 for 31 runs, with only 65 runs on the board, but with a commendable first day behind them, the hosts were still in a strong position to end the day on a mammoth total.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 struck again after just one run by sending Klinger back after the batsman had played an innings of 20 runs.
It was then a daunting middle-order partnership between VS Solanki and MM Ali that halted the bowling onslaught as the batsmen ruthlessly went against the bowlers, in a bid to mould a strong first innings total.
Finally with 168 runs on the board, the stupendous partnership came to its eventual end on the wicket of Solanki, who had his stumps shattered everywhere by Lewis after hammering a knock of 42 runs.
Ali was then the next wicket to fall as he found his way back to the pavilion after scoring a well tamed knock of 61 runs, leaving his team on a total of 199 runs.
It was then downhill for the batting side as the batsmen kept losing wickets without putting up much of a fight, except for JG Cameron, who bolstered a knock of 52 runs and was the last man to lose his wicket.
Surrey are now in a comfortable position and with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 in their ranks, the side has a serious chance of posting a superior first innings tally on the board.
