  1. Perimeter = 42 = 2l + 2w

    Width = w

    Length = l = w + 4

    (Your system of equations is 2l + 2w = 42 and l = w + 4)

    P = 2l + 2w (substitute the correct values into the equation)

    42 = 2(w + 4) + 2w

    42 = 2w + 8 + 2w

    42 = 4w + 8

    34 = 4w

    w = 8.5

    l = w + 4

    l = 8.5 + 4

    l = 12.5

    ANSWER: The length of the room is 12.5 feet and width of the room is 8.5 feet.

  2. im thinking of the deminsion as 18 because 42/3=14 14+4=18

    hope im right sorry if not:]

  3. This is what you know:

    length is 4ft longer than width.  Therefore you'll find the width.

    using the formula p=2L + 2W

    42 = 2(w+4)+2W

    42 = 2W + 8 + 2W or

    42 = 4W + 8

    42 - 8 = 4W

    34 = 4W

    34/4 = W

    8.5 = W

    There the width is 8.5ft

    The length then must be 8.5 + 4 = 12.5

    (2 x 12.5) + (2 x 8.5) =42

    25 + 17 = 42
