Question:

Word processor- memory exceeded when pasting?

Word processor will not let me paste any amount of text as it "exceeds the file size"... why is it doing this and how can i stop it? my laptop is relatively empty so i don't think it could be the amount of memory i have left...?

  1. It could be a problem with your RAM or random access memory, or a problem with the software.  need more details.


  2. Because you did not indicated which word processing program you are using, MS Office, Open Office (Linux program thats runs in windows), or other, my answer is concerning RAM, and possibly that is limiting your copy and paste.

    Memory is RAM not hard disk space.

    RAM is where programs that are running on your system are held. Look at the icons by your clock, these programs are held in RAM, and if you do not need them open, close them, freeing up RAM. Either right click the icon and close the application, or do what is listed below, to not have those programs start everytime you reboot.

    To free up RAM you need to close services you do not need running at startup.

    Go to start

    Go to run

    type msconfig

    go to startup tab

    uncheck programs not needed at startup

    Caution: do not uncheck your antivirus and or firewall.
