I working on a word wall for my classroom. Right now I'm working with a mix group of 4s and 5s. What kind of words would you include on the word wall. I have a very limited area to work with. So I need to know basic words. I thought about having number words and colors but I don't know what esle to include. Also how would you go about introducing these words to them? Would you have them up in the writing center and just let the children write them during free play or would you have them journaling. (If journaling how would you introduce them to that?)

  1. In your circle time area you could have a word wall space and add to the word wall each day. It could even be a "job". I would include words such as: I, sit, walk, stop, go, hit, No, Yes, you, please, thank you, and so on. You can also include the days of the week, colors, numbers, the months of the year, animals, things in the classroom. Change the word wall according to your lesson plan. When you ar done with the word you can have the children tell what letter in the alphabet should the would go under. So you should have the ABC's hanging up somewhere. You can also label things in your classroom and provide and picture to go along with it as well.

  2. i done a word wall for a project. add little 2 and 3 letter words to start off with. add some colours shapes and drawings. labelling different objects will also be a great way of recognising words as they are all around them.

after they learn a few of them words introduce them to 4 letter words. i got top marks for my assignment. it was great. hope i was help.

also you could have the word of the day on the board. along with the word draw a little picture and colour and keep reminding the kids.

  3. * Include upper and lower case letters on the Word Wall.

    * All words should have pictures, preferably realistic as opposed to clip art.

    * Start with children's names and their photos (these stay up all year).

    * Add a word a day.

    * Use theme-related words  (spring, flower, garden, watering can, etc).

    * Use book-related words (Peter Rabbit, carrots, etc).

    * Use letter-of-the-week words (garden, gazebo, gate, etc).

    * Take down words when the theme changes. A cluttered Word Wall is overwhelming to the children. It's ok if many letters don't have words under them.

    * When taking down words, add them to the writing center or reading center.

    * Place the Word Wall at children's eye level.

    * Make it interactive - involve the children.

    * Use it as a transition ("Find the word garden and then you may choose your center.").

    * Keep it neat, attractive, relevant, and colorful.

  4. *You can label objects around the room

    i.e. desk,chair,easel etc

*We do word of the day: Evey day we learn a new sight word. We rainbow write the word. We then include the word on our word wall.

We review the words from the day before and introduce the  new word at circle time( this is in kindergarten)

*Kids love to their name on word walls

*You can have a writing center where the kids can write letters to each other and put them in their "mailbox"  and post words like: friend, like, you, nice. One can change the words as often as you like

Morning message are great as well. We tell the kinders. a word and they circle the word in the morning message.

  5. You could have a picture of the word , such as a paper with the number 9 on it , or a paper covered in blue for the word  'blue ' . You could then have a different section , taking the lower half of it with how to spell the word . OR you could have an area where they practice writing the word .  Introduce the words using the alphabet as reference or use it as a game in the corner of the room . Explain how to play the game at the beginning of the day , (and to new comers ) , and usually , all the kids want to try something new !

  6. u can introduce word like colours, numbers, clothes, cars . u can show the word with a drawing picture on the wall. it help them to understand moe about the word. u can introduce by journaling. yeah. u can start by arrange them like a  caterpillar arrangement n u will be the coach. u bring them n guide them along the journaling. it's interesting

  7. Preschoolers should be introduced to words that mean something to them.  You could use a word wall, but it might be more beneficial to just label things around the room.  Things like, chair, table, wall, toys, door, etc.  You should also include colors, numbers and shapes, but do so with a picture so they have something to relate the word to.

  8. My son is in pre K and some of his sight words are I,we will, you, can, read, the.  His teacher goes over them almost daily on the board and he knows them all

  9. I would include student names.  During journaling they could write the name and draw a picture of that person or what they like to do with them.

Also, in your pre-k word wall, I would include basic number/color words with a picture to represent each.

Any words that you include at this stage of development should include pictures with each to remind/reinforce the word.  For example, if you are studying apples, put the picture of an apple with it.
