i have a great website on wordpress and i want to have articles on around 8 topics is it better to create 8 pages or posts.

You can do it both ways, but WP "pages" are usually meant for static content - meaning you cannot have comments, trackbacks etc on a page. So if you are looking to have feedback on your content, create 8 posts else just have 8 pages.
