Words of wisdom for a first time mom?

I am making a diaper cake for my sister's baby shower. I am trying to think of bits of advice or funny anecdotes/jokes to write on the diapers for those middle of the night changes when al you want to do is sleep.

What is the best advice that you have for a new mom? What is something you learned from experience that you never would of thought of? Can you think of any short jokes about having a baby that would make mom laugh?

  1. 1. if he/she isn't crying, leave them alone! lol

    2. Sleep when they sleep

    3. Do not hold them all the time, learn to put them down and let them self soothe

    4. Teach a baby to sleep alone, w/out vibration, swinging ect...ect... if possible, it helps alot for when they are 6months old and you have to do tricks to get them to sleep!

    5. Don't buy every cool gadget out there, because trust me you do not need half of that c**p

    6. cute outfits are just that.... cute, they are not always practical for a newborn, be aware that most of the time the baby will spend its time in a sleeper or onsie or something similiar

    7. You will not break your baby...... i was so afriad when she was born that i would break her..... shes fragile but not breakable

    8. No mother is perfect, your going to make mistakes

    9. Babies cry..... it doesn't mean they hate you, sometimes they jsut cry to cry

    10. sometimes you have to just let them cry, if they are not hungry, hurting, wet/poopie and will not stop crying, sometimes you just have to let them cry, its hard at first but it gets easier.

    11. Your not a bad mother if you get frustrated.

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head lol, you need more let me know

  2. just remember your the angel in charge of this baby, you will always be blessed, you will always be busy.

  3. biggest mistake of your life, it's over now, say bye bye to your hubby he's cheating already!!

  4. well if its a little boy... I would say something like  dont forget your rain coat... little boys come with a built in sprinkler system

I learned this after getting peed on a few times, in my face, in the baby's face, up the walls, on my nice clean fresh bed right before bedtime, all over my shirt while at his doctor appointment  w/ no clean or dry shirt to put on I had to spend the next couple of hours in a wet t shirt

  5. Don't read every book available, trust your instinct!  No one knows your baby as well as you do!  Take help from people if they offer it - hmmm I still find that hard to do!

  6. 1. Leave a contented baby be.

Sometimes they need quiet time to process their new surroundings.

    2. Before you go around sterilizing your entire house and everyone in it, remember, this kid will probably eat dirt by the time he's two and live to tell the tale.

    :D  Good luck!

  7. Trust your "mother's intuition".

  8. Enjoy every moment. They grow up quickly.

  9. I am a first time mom and I waited till 29 to have my beautiful baby boy who is 7 weeks. I don't have any advise but the only think I can think of when I had those every hour and a half feedings was "this could be way worse, I could of had twins".  I could only imagine. YIKES! On my next go around if I do have twins (that run high in my fam) I'm sure I would look back and think "huh, what a walk in the park".

I also take everyday as a blessing. I think that song that Trace Atkins sings "your going to miss this" says it all. As I did with pregnancy I dont rush a thing. My hubby is ready for him to be walking and talking. I want him to stay a baby as long as possible. O yea if she is having a boy to ALWAYS ALWAYS ( i cant say that enough) to cover the turtle when she is changing the diaper.  For some reason when it hits that cool air it goes off.LOL

  10. i has one too, but i wished i had jokes on it , ... mine had funky couloured pegs and ear plugs , also some of those dust masks also all incorporated into the cake , pegs for your nose , ear plugs for obvious reasons and dust masks for over your mouth and nose for the smell...LOL  it was funny at the time

  11. Awesome idea! I have grown kids, and grandkids as well as an 11 yr old surprise. I learned that it's true that kids grow up before you know it. The most important thing is to enjoy everything. With my surprise I enjoy everything, even the crying. Funny thing is, I was so relaxed, because I was loving everything, that he cried far less than the other two. I learned what is and isn't important enough to get upset about. To not compare children to others, appreciate who they are, let them explore who they are and support their interests, rather than trying to control what interests them. Go with your instincts - relax.

  12. well a tip for the new mother. my baby is just 2 months old. he had rashes a week earlier. some one adviced me to use CORNFLOUR. and believe me it really worked. the rashes were gone. the thing is that when you change his diaper, dont wipe it off, just sprinkle a little corn flour on rashes when they are wet. and then use diaper. do this thing 2 or 3 times for 1 day and the rashes will be gone. try it. it really works

  13. Here are some to get you started:

"nothing like the smell of poo so early in the morning"

    "nap now, laundry can wait!"

"5 S's= swaddle, sway, suck on a paci, shhhhhhh, side/stomach hold"

    "it only gets better!"

"soon he/she'll be borrowing the car"

"feeding with your eyes closed may work, but diaper changing doesn't!"

    "beware of shooting poo"

"you'll look back and miss these times"

"why are you wasting time reading the diaper?  You have a million other things to do!"

"Why does it seem like more comes out than goes in?"

The diaper cake I was given at my shower was built around a container of Clorox Wipes which I thought was very handy and clever and to this day I always keep some on the changing table (not for baby) but for the messes which may get on the wall/floor/dresser.
