I am a female year 12 student in Australia and currently contemplating on my qtac prefferences. I am very passionate about the international airline industry ever since my trip to Europe!! However, to be sure i am choosing the right path i really would like to take part in some form of work experience at the Brisbane international terminal. But how do i go about doing this?? Who do ask?? Does it cost money?? Will i be able too?? Will those officials who have the authority to set up this work experience be discouraged because i am a girl??

  1. Dont worry about being a girl. I'm an aeronautical engineering student in Ireland and have had 3 different internships in the industry. I have come across a few female engineers during my time and they all got on very well. I've worked closely with them and found them to be very competent and they get respected and treated like equals.

However when it comes to getting work experience you can use the fact that you are a girl to your advantage. Write up your application well and show alot of enthusiasm. Sounds pervy but a male interviewer is more likely to hire a girl because to be honest there isn't much to look at in the industry as its mostly men. You may not want to get a job this way but if you have loads of experience it will be much easier to get one for the right reasons.
