I will soon be living in San Miguel de Allende with some friends for 6 months or so. They are hoping to set up an environmental NGO and wish for me to help. However, there will probably be no salary; therefore, i would like to work in some capacity as well. I will probably do a TEFL course as a contingency to enable me to teach English but I would be interested to hear of any other types of jobs that it might be possible to secure in Mexico (as primarily an English speaker). I'm willing to do almost anything (for low pay)!

  1. You are wiling to do anything for low pay is "Spot On"

You are more qualified than most foreigners that think they want to work in Mexico.

However Mexico has unemployed people with your qualifications.

"No Salary" is good because , if you read the back of your FMT it says --you can not do anything re-numerable while visiting Mexico.

You would have to get a work permit that would have to find an employer that will say he Can Not find a qualified Mexican to fill the position

With all due respect,as a fellow Brit forget these ambitions and have a fun time.  There are 15000 Gring os in San Miguel

  2. sorry mate

a native English speaker in San Miguel de Allende is nothing special.

it is the biggest "waiting room to go to heaven" for gringos on earth.

  3. Well, there are zillions of gringos in San Miguel, so speaking English won't be a problem. I doubt if they need any English teachers as it is a MECCA for retired English speakers. Also...sorry, but you cannot work in Mexico when there as a tourist.  you have to have a work permit with an F3visa.  Only way to get it is to find an employer who will hire you and write a letter to immigration stating that he cannot find a Mexican  for that job.  This is nearly impossible to do unless you have a rare, badly needed skill.  Also takesmoney, time, patience and tons of paperwork.  Unless you can find a gringo to work for who will pay you under the table...you won't be able to work in Mexico.  Most Mexican jobs pay $5.00 usd a DAY...not enough to get out of bed for!  If you're cute and have a delightful accent and know some gringos who own a restaurant...maybe you could work as a waiter for tips...Idon't know how closely local officials watch things there...I know in Veracruz..they are very strict about the work permits.
