Question:

Work in NH, live in MA - Taxes

If I was to accept a job in New Hampshire, but live in Massachusetts, how would my taxes look ?

I know that NH doesn't do income tax, only tax on dividends and other capitol gains, but what about MA

I assume I will have to pay some sort of Federal income tax but do I do that through a NH return or a MA return ?

What is MA going to charge ? I would imagine that I won't be required to file state taxes in MA as I am not earning my money there, but isn't state tax in MA a sort of "paying to live" in MA kinda thing ?

I don't know anything about taxes. Anything you can assist with would be appreciated.

It will be a job in Law Enforcement if that makes a difference

  1. You only owe MA taxes on money earned in MA. If the job is elsewhere don't worry about it.
